Is Lip Blushing Safe During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding?
f you're pregnant or breastfeeding, you might be wondering:
“Is it safe to get lip blush right now?”
At Natural Lip Blush London, I treat safety and ethics as seriously as I treat your results. That means giving you honest, medically informed advice — even when it means waiting.
Here’s everything you need to know about lip blushing while pregnant or nursing, and what I recommend as your trusted PMU artist in Marylebone.
🤰🏼 Can You Get Lip Blush While Pregnant?
The short answer: No — not recommended.
While there’s no definitive research proving that cosmetic tattooing is harmful during pregnancy, most reputable artists (including me) will not perform lip blushing on clients who are pregnant.
Why?
1. Increased risk of infection
Your immune system is naturally suppressed during pregnancy, making you more prone to infections and slower healing.
2. Higher sensitivity to pain
Hormonal changes make your skin more sensitive, which could make the procedure more uncomfortable than usual.
3. Stress and anxiety responses
Even minimal discomfort during tattooing can trigger stress responses in the body, which isn’t ideal during pregnancy.
4. Potential risks from topical anaesthetics
Although I use professional-grade numbing creams, they contain ingredients that haven’t been tested for use during pregnancy.
💡 If you're pregnant, I kindly ask you to wait until after delivery to book your treatment.
🤱 Can You Get Lip Blush While Breastfeeding?
This one is a little more flexible — but still approached with caution.
Here’s what I advise:
✅ Wait at least 6–8 weeks after giving birth, once you feel physically stable and are no longer taking postpartum medications
✅ Consult with your GP before booking — especially if you're exclusively breastfeeding
✅ Be aware of the cold sore risk — many new mums are prone to flare-ups, which can affect healing
✅ Stay hydrated, rested, and nourished — your healing depends on your body’s overall state
Important: If you’re breastfeeding, I’ll always ask you to sign a waiver confirming you’ve been medically cleared and understand the potential risks.
