Seasonal Lip Care: Preparing Your Lips for a Blush Treatment Year-Round

Did you know the season you book your lip blush can affect how your lips heal?

At Natural Lip Blush London, I prep every client for success — and that means adjusting your routine based on the weather. Whether it's dry winter winds or sweaty summer humidity, different conditions call for slightly different care.

Here’s how to prep and protect your lips no matter when you book.

❄️ Winter: Combat Dryness & Cracking

Colder months = drier air, central heating, and windburn — all of which can lead to flaky, cracked lips that aren’t ideal for pigment retention.

Winter prep tips:

  • Start a hydration routine 7–10 days in advance

  • Use a non-petroleum lip balm several times a day

  • Exfoliate gently every other day with a sugar scrub

  • Use a humidifier if you sleep with heating on

💡 Lips that are cracked or peeling before your appointment may need to be rescheduled — we want a smooth, hydrated base.

🌸 Spring: The Ideal Healing Season

Spring’s moderate temps and stable humidity make it a great time to book your lip blush. Your lips won’t be exposed to extreme conditions, and you can pair the healing period with your seasonal glow-up.

Spring prep tips:

  • Hydrate well (inside and out)

  • Avoid allergy meds or antihistamines that dry you out

  • Use SPF balm daily if the sun’s out early

☀️ Summer: SPF Is Everything

Sun exposure is the #1 cause of faded or distorted pigment during healing. If you’re booking lip blush in the summer, extra care is key.

Summer prep tips:

  • Wear SPF lip balm before and after your treatment

  • Avoid sunbathing for at least 10 days post-appointment

  • Skip the beach, saunas, steam rooms, and swimming

  • Drink plenty of water to counteract heat/sweat-induced dehydration

💡 If you're planning a holiday, it's best to book 6–8 weeks before flying, so you're fully healed before travel.

🍂 Autumn: Prep for Temperature Swings

Autumn is another good time to book — but London’s back-and-forth weather means your lips might feel dry one day and oily the next.

Autumn prep tips:

  • Focus on consistency — gentle exfoliation + daily balm

  • Avoid licking your lips in wind (it makes dryness worse)

  • Begin pre-care 5–7 days out to build up a moisture barrier

🗓️ All-Year Lip Care Rules

No matter the season:

  • Stay hydrated

  • Don’t pick, peel, or scrub aggressively

  • Avoid Vaseline — it blocks skin from breathing

  • Use high-quality, fragrance-free balm (I’ll recommend one!)
