How to Prep for Your Lip Blush Appointment: A 7-Day Checklist

You’ve booked your lip blush appointment (yay!), and now you’re counting down the days. But did you know that how you prepare your lips beforehand can make all the difference to your results?

At Natural Lip Blush London, I always say: perfect results start with perfect prep. Here’s my no-fuss, 7-day countdown to ensure your lips are in the best possible condition for your appointment.

🗓️ 7 Days Before Your Appointment

Hydration is key.
Start drinking plenty of water — your lips need to be soft, smooth, and well-hydrated. If you’re prone to dry lips, begin applying a gentle balm (no petroleum!) a few times daily.

Avoid alcohol, salty snacks, and excessive caffeine — they dehydrate your skin, including your lips.

🗓️ 5 Days Before

No acids, no actives.
Stop using exfoliating skincare products (like retinol, AHAs, and BHAs) around your mouth. These can thin the skin and make your lips more sensitive to the tattooing process.

🗓️ 3 Days Before

Begin light exfoliation.
Use a soft lip scrub or make one at home (brown sugar + honey works great). Do this once a day to gently remove any flakiness. Follow with a nourishing lip balm or a dab of coconut oil.

Tip: This is especially helpful for clients prone to dry or chapped lips.

🗓️ 2 Days Before

Skip the booze.
Alcohol thins your blood, which can lead to excess bleeding during the procedure — and that can affect pigment retention.

Bonus: Cut back on caffeine too for the same reason.

🗓️ 1 Day Before

No filler, no intense skincare, no saunas.
If you’re planning lip filler, it needs to be done at least 4 weeks before your lip blush appointment. Today, keep things simple: no facials, no peels, and no heat exposure (like saunas or hot yoga).

🗓️ On the Day

  • Arrive makeup-free around your lips

  • Eat beforehand (you’ll want to be comfortable during the appointment)

  • Bring lip balm and a bottle of water

  • Wear something comfy – you'll be lying down for a while

👩‍🔬 A Note on Cold Sores

If you’ve ever had a cold sore, it’s essential to start an antiviral medication like Aciclovir 3 days before your appointment. Lip blushing can trigger an outbreak otherwise — and we want to keep your healing process as smooth as possible.

💄 You're Ready!

Proper prep means better pigment retention, smoother healing, and a more even colour result — so don’t skip these steps.

At Natural Lip Blush London in Marylebone, I guide every client through this process personally — so feel free to reach out with any questions before your appointment.
