Can You Wear Makeup After Lip Blushing? A Week-by-Week Breakdown
One of the most common questions I get at Natural Lip Blush London is:
“When can I wear makeup again after my lip blush treatment?”
It’s a great question — and an important one. While lip blush is a subtle, long-lasting way to enhance your natural beauty, your lips need time to heal properly for the pigment to settle evenly.
Here’s a week-by-week guide to help you plan your makeup routine without messing up your results.
🗓️ Day 1–3: Absolutely No Makeup on the Lips
During these first few days, your lips will be:
Freshly tattooed
Slightly swollen or tender
Starting to dry out
👉 Avoid all makeup near the lips, especially foundation, concealer, or lipstick. Applying anything can introduce bacteria and interfere with healing.
Stick to your aftercare balm only (I’ll provide you with a professional one at your appointment).
🗓️ Day 4–7: Flaking Phase – Still No Lip Products!
At this stage, your lips will begin light peeling or flaking — it’s completely normal.
✅ What you can do:
Continue applying your aftercare balm
Wear minimal foundation/blush if you keep it away from the lip area
Keep lips clean, hydrated, and protected
🚫 Still no lip gloss, lipstick, or tinted balm! Even “natural” products can irritate your healing lips or alter pigment retention.
🗓️ Day 7–14: Caution with Face Makeup
Your lips may appear slightly faded as the colour settles in (don’t worry — this is normal!).
At this point:
You can start wearing foundation and blush as normal, keeping it clear of the lip edges
Avoid lip products until your full two-week healing period is up
🗓️ After 14 Days: Back to Your Regular Makeup Routine (Almost)
You can now: ✅ Apply lipstick, gloss, or balm (though you may not need it — your lip blush should be giving “tinted balm” already!) ✅ Use foundation right up to the lip line
⚠️ Just be gentle. Avoid harsh lip exfoliants, long-wear matte lipsticks, or intense active skincare around the mouth until your 6-week touch-up.
💄 What to Avoid Even After Healing
To preserve your lip blush results long-term, I recommend:
Skipping petroleum-based lip products
Using SPF lip balm daily
Avoiding aggressive scrubs or chemical peels near the lips
👄 Final Thoughts
Lip blushing gives you a low-maintenance beauty routine — but your skin still needs a little time and patience to settle into the final result.
If you follow this timeline, your healed lips will look natural, fresh, and flawless — with colour that lasts up to 3 years.
