The Truth About Pain During Lip Blushing – How Much Does It Really Hurt?

Let’s be honest — anytime a needle is involved, the first thing people ask is:

“Does it hurt?”

At Natural Lip Blush London, I totally get it. You want that soft, defined, just-bitten lip colour — without feeling like your lips are being set on fire.

So let’s talk about it.

💉 First Things First: What Does Lip Blushing Feel Like?

Most of my clients describe the sensation as:

  • A light scratch or vibration on the surface of the lips

  • Mild discomfort, not real pain

  • Very manageable, especially with the numbing cream I use

Think: more annoying than painful. Like an electric toothbrush buzzing on your lips.

🧴 What About Numbing Cream?

At my Marylebone studio, I use a medical-grade topical anaesthetic before and during your treatment.

This means: ✔ You won’t feel much beyond slight pressure or a tickle
✔ If at any point it feels uncomfortable, I’ll pause and reapply
✔ Most clients end up dozing off mid-session!

🗣️ What My Clients Say:

💬 “Honestly I was expecting it to hurt way more – I’ve had lip filler and this was way easier.”
💬 “I barely felt a thing. I could have done emails during it!”
💬 “It just felt weird — not painful. I was nervous, but it was fine.”

🔥 When Can It Feel More Sensitive?

A few things can make your lips more sensitive on the day:

  • Hormonal changes (e.g. during your period)

  • Not eating beforehand

  • Drinking caffeine or alcohol

  • Skipping water (hydration really helps!)

If you’re worried about pain, just let me know — I tailor every session so you’re as comfy as possible.

🚫 What Not to Do Before Your Appointment

To make sure it’s as painless as possible, avoid:

  • Coffee, tea or energy drinks the morning of

  • Alcohol for 24–48 hours

  • Spicy or salty foods right before (your lips will be extra sensitive!)

🧘🏼‍♀️ Bottom Line: It’s Super Doable

Lip blushing is nothing like a traditional tattoo. The needle is finer, the pressure is lighter, and the vibe in my studio? Calm, quiet, and super chill.

If you’ve ever had your eyebrows microbladed or your lips filled, this will feel like a breeze.

So — does it hurt?
Not really. And it’s 100% worth it.
